Moving into a new place and decorating can be challenging. It’s a blank canvass and you have the paintbrush to create pictures. If you have no idea what you are going to paint in the first place, then you will be staring at a blank canvass for a long time. Decorating a new house is starting from scratch. It can’t even be called a home yet, as you have not yet injected yourself into the place. This is where your decorating project should begin.
The amount of work to be done will depend on what you have to work with but even a brand new construction can always use a personal touch. This can be done very simply by hanging pictures or by painting the walls, but you need to start somewhere.
The first step to making a house a home is deciding what you like and do not like about your new space. Once you have this figured out then starting to plan a consistent design for your new home will become much easier. The trick here is to pick an overall design for your home and to stick with it, while most homes today have a more eclectic feel, they do have one underlying design that the home owner has taken through out their space.
Use things that you like. Add personal touches like photographs, favorite artworks, travel souvenirs and collections. You want your home to have an inviting ambiance to it, as well as to give a comfortable and relaxing feel.
Express your likes and preferences in area rugs where you can choose your favorite colors, designs, shapes and patterns. Make sure that the size is the perfect fit for the spot you chose and you can do this by measuring the area before purchasing the rug. If it’s for a furniture group, have the right rug size to accommodate all the furniture pieces with some extra space on the rug, especially for pulling back chairs.
It’s fun to decorate a new house because it’s somewhat an introduction between you and your new place. Don’t be afraid to show yourself. In doing so, you will find yourself a real home, a place that you will enjoy for many years.
