If you have basic carpentry skills and know how to use a level you can start installing house shutters in your home. If you won’t have time to do the job, you can employ a carpenter to install the shutters on your home. However, installing shutters is relatively easy and can be performed by many people.
Do not be put off about installing your exterior house shutters. If your neighbors can accomplish this undemanding job, so can you. You only need to get acquainted with a few simple procedures. There are two recommended ways to install your shutters. You can pick an inside mount or an outside mount. It is easiest to use an inside mount that can be completed right from your open window.
Inside mount installation
With an inside mount installation, the shutter is connected upon the inside of the window opening on the window jamb. This is ordinarily a easier manner of installation and is very common by professionals because it is less complicated and needs no framing strips.
The window jamb should be solid. Then, you need to attach the shutter hardware with screws. You will have to drill a hole in the jamb at the correct spots so that the hardware can be mounted into the window jamb. The jamb should be solid so that the shutter will be secure.
Now that you have mounted the hardware, you need to see if the shutters are straight with the window. You might use a level to check that that they are aligned. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions as each style of inside mounted shutter requires different mounting procedures. If you understand how to use an electric drill, you will be able to quickly perform installing house shutters in an inside mount position.
Outside mount installation
Predictably, an outside mount attaches to the outside of the window, normally into the trim, but occasionally in the wall. If you wish to use an outside mount on shutters inside your house, avoid having to screw the shutter into the wall panel unless it is anchored because the unit will likely come out of the wall. Some people prefer an outside mount so that the installation can be not quite exact in terms of the measurements, which an inside mount will not allow. However, the outside mount does not look as finished as the inside mount.
Make sure you use a level when installing shutters in order to ensure that the shutters are hung straight. Your eyes can play tricks on you, but a level will not. You will also require an electric drill, a way to mount the screwdriver heads, and perhaps some toggles if you are installing the shutters on sheetrock without a stud.
Do not think you can’t install your house shutters yourself. This is not too complicated and after you have installed one shutter, the rest will come very easily. Installing house shutters is simple, as long as you have the proper tools, namely, a screwdriver, drill, toggle mounts (if installing into drywall) and a level, you will be able to do this job easily and within a short period of time.
